Internet Saver - send money

    I'm confused about how to get money out of my Internet Saver account. I actually want to close the account, but apparently it has to be empty before I can do that, hence I need to withdraw money.

    I have followed the instructions about setting up a 'linked account', but it says it will only accept accounts in my name. I have no other accounts that are *only* in my name - I'm trying to send money to a joint account. What do I do now??

    Did you put your name exactly as it appears on the account?

    That's actually a tricky question! As a joint account, the full account name (as it appears on the statement) consists of mine and my spouse's full names together, and is too long to fit in the account name field of 'add linked account'.
    The name as it appears on cheques has been reduced to our initials + surname.
    The name as it appears on my cheques has my initials first, while on my spouse's cheques it has their initials first.I've tried a few of these options, but nothing works so far. I'm not certain how critical the account name is to the matching process, so maybe the fault is elsewhere - but I've triple checked the sort-code and account numbers.


    I note that the warning on the add linked account page says "Please note: if the account you are adding is not in your name, your request will not be set up. You’ll need to authorise the first payment, any future payments can be made straight away." I don't understand what authorisation this means or how it happens. Does it mean it has to be done via the helpdesk rather than online?

    @Bluefin Thanks for clarifying! That is likely what is causing the issue so if you call the Savings team on 0345 678 5678 (Mon - Fri: 8am - 6pm, Sat - Sun: 9am - 2pm) they'll be able to help with this. Sorry for the inconvenience!
