Cost of overdraft

Hello All, and thank you for allowing me to join The Community. Just to show my lack of banking expertise I have a basic question, that one of you knowledgeable banksperts may be able to answer. I have just opened a current a/c with Tesco bank, and was advised in the intro. letter to take out an ovderdraft. As I hadn't applied for oneI changed it, and requested a £300.00 overdraft - just in case! Question? If I don't use this overdraft, and it just sits there waiting for an emergency, will there be a charge just for having it.Sorry, I'm sure there's a simple answer but - I don't need one (yet) so don't want to pay a fee for nothing. Anyone not asleep by now, and clued up as to overdrafts, your help would be appreciated.

Hi @wine2, welcome to The Community.

If you have an arranged overdraft on your account then there is no fee for having this, you would only be charged interest on the amount you were overdrawn. So if you have £300 available for your overdraft and don't use it then you won't be charged.
If you do go overdrawn, then you can use our overdraft calculator to estimate how much interest you would be charged and you can find this at http://www.tescobank.com/current-accounts/overdraft/

I hope this answers your question!

Well, thank's jamiej for your reading my post. Do you know the answer, or is it so basic that people think I'm joking? Just in case it's the latter let me assure you that I really am this stupid.
