Moving House - buildings insurance between exchange and completion.

When moving house its the buyers responsibility as per the law society "standard conditions of sale 5th edition" (which nearly all conveyancers use) to have buildings insurance on the place you are buying to cover the period BETWEEN exchange of contracts to completion date - when you become the legal owner and move in.

Tesco House Insurance helpline tell me that they cover this for 60 days but this doesn't appear in the Policy Booklet nor FAQ's on the site and the agent can't provide a copy of their internal guidance that confirms this - instead just wanting me to take their word for it.

Moving House is not exactly uncommon - so where can I get written confirmation that this is the case.

@rhinoo Hey there, thanks for getting in touch!

My colleague is correct. When you are moving home, we move your buildings cover to the new property from the exchange date. You would then have up to 60 days of contents cover at the old property until the sale is completed and you move home.

This isn't stated explicitly in our policy booklet, but it is our limit.

If you call the Home Insurance team, they may be able to request a manual letter for you. You can reach them on 0345 246 2904 (Mon - Fri: 8am - 8pm, Sat - Sun: 9am - 2pm).

I hope they can get it all sorted for you.

We're told time and time again that we must carefully check the T&C of things like insurance - there are horror stories abound about people getting stung for infractions (either minor or major) - don't you think the policy booklet should be comprehensive?
