I applied for a loan and it says they’ll get back to me within 2-3 days and then send paperwork in the post within 5 days. I won’t get the funds in time now so don’t want the loan anymore, can I just ignore the paperwork and it will withdraw my application?

That is correct. If you don't return the documents to us before the deadline stated on the paperwork, the application will expire.
