When getting a quote for Tesco home insurance I am asked the question "Has your home, including its land, been flooded by external sources such as sea, river or rainfall in the last 10 years?" Answering yes to this question increases the quote by £255. Our house stands at the top end of a plot of land that slopes down to a small river over 150 metres away. Last year the bottom 20 metres of the land was flooded for the first time in the nearly 50 years we have lived here. This was caused by the river overflowing plus excess water from a large building site where proper drainage had yet to be installed further up the hill 200 metres from our house. Given that our property was in no danger from this rare event would it be acceptable to answer no to the question about flooding?
