Changing Car Timing - Car Insurance

    Hi All,

I'm changing my car next week and have updated my car insurance this evening.

I'm changing the car in the middle of the day and, unhelpfully, the Tesco Bank Car Insurance system does not let you specific a time for the coverage change to take effect and defaults to midnight that day!

As a result I potentially will have my current car uninsured and risk getting pulled over.

I've just rang the helpline to check and they were adamant that my current car will continue to be covered by Tesco until the handover even if it is no longer the vehicle on my certificate. They call it a "grace period".

I asked for this in writing or asked to be pointed to it in the policy and I was told that was not possible.

    Is this true?

I feel I now need to go and take out a single day car insurance to cover my for the period of getting up, going to work then travelling to the dealer - the distance involved is too far (82 miles) to consider dropping off the night before.

    Thanks

    Andy

@boff180 Hi Andy, thanks for getting in touch.

I understand that there is a lot of worry when it comes to changing cars and you don't want anything to go wrong.

However, my colleagues are the experts in these matters so if they have confirmed a 'Grace Period' then this will be true.

Sorry I can't offer any more information but if you have any further questions, I'm my colleagues on the helpline would be happy to answer them. 🙂
