Wanting to change my direct debit date but got fobbed off by the help line, I just want to change it from 30th of the month to the 1st.

The only way to change your direct date is by calling. If my colleagues weren't able to change the date for you, then it may mean that date isn't available for payment on your account. This is due to the date your statement is produced.
