Do Tesco send a text from a private number asking me to confirm a transaction abroad?

@Mwich Hey there, thanks for getting in touch!

It's possible that we'd text you to confirm a transaction if we wanted to make sure it was genuine. If you send a private message, we'll check this for you.

Hello Christopher and thanks for responding.

I am trying to book a hotel in Italy using their online page. The original submission semed to go through. Later I found a text from a private number which made me suspicious. After that I found a text from the usual Tesco Bank number saying the bank will send a text from the private number. So I calmed down and sent a reply text with "Y" to confirm transaction. This was acknowledged with a reply text. This was at 21:15 on 15 May.
The hotel has now sent a text saying the transaction has not gone through. So, I do want to book this hotel; do I need to repeat the transaction?
Can you find status of the original transaction. I have just checked my card account and nothing is showing as pending or cleared.

Any help or advice will be appreciated.
    regards
    Tom.

@Mwich Thanks for the additional information, Tom!

Did the text message from us state the transaction had declined? If so, you should put the transaction through again.

If the transaction has gone through, it will show in your pending transactions. As it's not showing based on your post, it sounds like it hasn't gone through.
