Is there a separate paying-in book without cheques in it?

I have a chequebook with my current account, which is includes 30 cheques and 5 credit giros. I pay in cheques more than I write them, but obviously 5 paying in giros isn't enough (for me at least). I find myself driving slightly out of my way to deposit at a customer service desk, especially if only one or two cheques, to save using a giro. Is there a separate paying-in book which only consists of paying-in giros? Or do you have to order a new chequebook each time despite not needing more cheques? If would be really useful if there is. I know TSB does separate chequebooks and paying-in books.

Hi @ajw23, thanks for getting in touch. If you call our team on 0345 835 3353 they can send out a paying-in book which will include more giro slips than the chequebooks you've been using :-)

I did ring up, but I was refused a separate paying in book. Reason cited was that it's a waste of paper and that some managers confirmed that you need not complete a giro, just to include the account number and sort code on the reverse of the cheque, despite the fact that the T+Cs and the the inside leaf of the chequebook say you need to complete a paying in giro. Seems to be a disparity between what's actually accepted, but either way I was refused one. I do prefer being able to have a record of what I've sent in the post.

Hi , I'm sorry to hear that. Can you please send a private message to so we can look into this? In the message explaining your situation, include your name, date of birth and postcode.
For details like your DOB and postcode we ask for you to format it with additional spaces, i.e. A B 1 2 C D and 2 4 1 0 2 0 1 6, otherwise the information is removed by the system.

I just ordered a new paying-in book on the phone - no problem at all. They're issued each Friday and take about 5 days to arrive. Also learned that you can pay cheques and cash in at any Tesco Extra - go to customer services & take i.d. - don't need a paying-in slip for that.

Hi, I have also just phoned your 0345 835 3353 number and was told I didn't need a paying in slip and that I should write my account number and sort code on the back of the cheque and post it to your Edinburgh address. This is contrary to what is stated in your FAQ. Could you please clarify if this is correct?
