Cost of phone call to arrange an account.

Had to arrange my new internet saver by phone due to the process not being allowed online for unknown reasons. This took Twenty three minutes and cost £3.10 ( BT phoneline). Interest is so poor these days that it will take a while to earn the interest to cover this cost. Would cost even more to phone up and complain. Not into Facebook or Twitter. So that leaves the Community Board. Is there anyone who can explain why I should be paying out this charge and what is the best way to complain without incurring more costs.

I'm sorry to hear that you had issues applying with us @Bladerunner. In cases like this, it can be worth contacting us on Community first, as we can check on applications and advise on what may be causing the problem. When you called up, did my colleagues advise on why your application wasn't going through?

The online application wasn't accepted and a message given to try again or phone the given number. Several attempts later I decided to phone ( This had happened before about a year ago). The guy who answered had to go away and discuss things with his manager, which of course prolonged the length of my phone call. I did say that I had read somewhere online that refusal may be due to the number of accounts held but this didn't appear to be the problem. My overall complaint is that a customer should not be charged for opening a new account, wouldn't you agree.

I'm sorry that this has happened, but I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to refund your call charges. I understand that this isn't the answer that you're looking for and I can make sure that a complaint is opened for you to be investigated by our Complaints team.

If you would like me to do that for you, please send a private message to our @Tesco-Bank account. When you send your details, please include your name, DOB and postcode. For the DOB and postcode, add extra spaces between the characters, otherwise they are removed from our system.
