Is Tesco a proper bank?

Hi have recently joined Tesco Bank - thinking that it might be a refeshing approach to banking. I think I'm very wrong. The account opening was straight forward. I transferred a small amount of money from my Lloyds account as a test, about £30 I think. It took over an hour to arrive in my Tesco bank account! I then made a transfer back to my Lloyds account at about 5pm today (Saturday) and I got a message telling me to expect the funds by 7am on Monday. Now, this isnt a problem because they were just small test transactions, however I cannot commit to using Tesco as my main bank account because of these ludicrous time scales. Every transaction I have made in the past couple of years with Lloyds and Natwest has cleared within a matter of seconds, why is Tesco bank not the same? The purpose of this post is to determine whether this is standard with Ttesco or is it just because my account is new...

Hi , I'm sorry to hear this. When you make a transfer it can take up to 24 hours to arrive in the destination account, although it normally shows within the first 2 hours.

We have a planned maintenance every Saturday between 4pm and 6am on Sunday which means faster payments can take longer during this time. Apologies for any inconvenience.

That’s OK, thank you for answering my question. To be honest, im very surprised that in this day and age Tesco of all businesses effectively operate a Monday to Friday bank.

Thanks very much for answering my question.
