Can I get a refund from my credit card

We booked a holiday last year and paid a £250 deposit using my tesco credit card, also booked seats of £26 X 4 with British Airways.

unfortunately due to a bereavement we couldn’t afford to pay for the holiday so we rung up and had to cancel. Obviously they couldn’t refund us our deposit or seats we booked, so we lost over £350.

they suggested we rung our credit card company which is tesco bank to see if we can get a refund. Is this a possibility ? Or would I just be wasting our time? We are self employed and hardly get a minute to ourselves so the thought of waiting on a phone on hold unnecessarily fills me with angst.

    any advice would be appreciated

btw we haven’t got travel insurance, we never got around to it.

@DevonUK Hey there, thanks for getting in touch!

I'm really sorry to hear about that. We would only be able to help you recover the costs if the airline didn't provide the service you'd paid for and left you out of pocket, I'm afraid.

In this instance it would be completely up to the airline to provide a refund on a goodwill basis.

I'm sorry for any disappointment this may cause you.
