Home Insurance Policy Renewal When Moving House

We currently hold a buildings & contents policy with another provider which is due for renewal soon but we’re thinking of switching to Tesco. However, we’re due to move house around the time of the renewal date. We think we can exchange contracts before the renewal date but completion is now likely going to be after that date. I think therefore we’re going to need to take out separate policies for buildings and contents as the insured address for buildings needs to be the new property from the point of exchange but the contents will still need to be insured for the current address until completion, when we’d then have to change it to the new address. Is this correct or is there a simpler alternative, or anything else we need to be aware of?

@DJALON Hey there, thanks for getting in touch. As you become legally liable for the property at the date of exchange, we can set-up cover to take effect from the date of exchange of contracts. We will also be able to cover the contents at the old property for up to 60 days. You will need to call us for a quote on this. You can reach the Home Insurance team on 0345 246 2904 (Mon - Fri: 8am - 8pm, Sat - Sun: 9am - 2pm) and they'll be happy to help 😊
