Check paid in on Tuesday the 5th but will not be clear until Friday the 15th?

My wife paid a check in to our current account to Tesco extra store on the 5th of this month and it didn't clear within 6 days like the site suggests, so I rang up today (13th) only to be told that it would not clear until the 15th? that's 10 days (8 working).

I'm really sorry to hear about the delay to your cheque . When you deposit a cheque into one of our stores, the balance will update to reflect the payment, but it won't fully clear until the store sends the cheque to our processing centre. At this time of year, there can be delays with the post and I'm sorry that this has had such an impact.

We can make sure that your comments are passed on to our store team, as this should've been discussed with your wife when she went into the store. Can you let us know which store your wife went to?

The branch in question is Hucknall Tesco Extra, it's a joint account and the check was made payable to myself, my wife tried to pay it in on the Monday (the 4th) and was told she cant as I have to pay the check in myself which is untrue the next day she went down there where 4/5 members of staff trying to pay the check in the first said "oh the systems down you cant pay checks in" but the second member of staff herd this and came over and told her its not, but she didn't know how to pay it in so another member of staff was called and did the same thing. At no point where we told there may be a delay due to Christmas post.Maybe you should update the nomenclature on the site to warn people of this? If this is the case with Tesco bank of which there seems to be many complaints about the time it takes for a check to clear I don't think I'll use this account for much longer.
