Do credits count towards the monthly payment

    On the look out
A while ago I made full balance payment by direct debit and any refunds/credits I received between the statement date and payment date were deducted from the total taken by direct debit. Is this the same for making manual payments? For example if my full payment amount was £1000 and I had received refunds of £100 between the statement date and payment date would I only need to pay £900 to clear the account?

Hi @PaulH, thanks for your question! Refunds and credits will only count towards your monthly payment if you pay the account by using the full payment direct debit, or if the amount of the refund is more than the outstanding account balance. If you choose to pay manually and wish to avoid paying interest, you'd always look to clear the full previous balance.

The only time this will be different is if making the payment would take you into credit due to refunds made after the statement was produced, then you could pay the amount to bring the account to zero. It can be a little complicated without access your account, but if you call a member of our team on 0345 300 4278, they can use specific examples from your account to help :-)
